I was asked to teach a super saturday class on how to make caramel apples. Leanna went with me to take pictures and Krista helped me "serve/EAT" the apples. The sisters were thrilled to learn there was another way besides melting Kraft caramels and I was a BIG H when they tasted these treats. I wanted to share the recipe and the pic's. If you have any questions just email me. ENJOY! -Cafe La La
GOURMET CARAMEL APPLES
1 cup Unsalted Butter
1 pd Dark Brown Sugar
2/3 cup Karo Syrup
12 oz can Sweetened Condensed Milk
1/3 cup Maple Syrup
1 1/2 t. Vanilla
1/4 t. Salt
Wash your granny smith apples REALLY good with soap and water. Dry. Dip apples at room temp only! Insert wooden skewers or cookie sticks. In large pot add all ingredients and stir constantly on Med-high heat with wooden spoon until candy thermometer reaches 236 or at least 15 minutes. Let drop to 200 degrees and dip 12 med-size apples. After dipping in the caramel you can roll in crushed oreo cookies and then dip in melting chocolate or roll in pecans, toasted almonds, toffee, or peanut butter cups and then melting chocolate. The ideas are endless! Have fun! Wrap in cello bags and tie with a ribbon for a great teacher gift for any holiday.
